Reading Between the Lines

Posted on

Isn’t it funny how we always felt

More comfortable

Speaking in metaphor

Not using the real words bouncing in our minds?

Isn’t it funny how we always felt

More daring

Speaking in metaphor

As if using the real words put our hearts at too much risk?

Isn’t it funny how we always felt

More protected

Speaking in metaphor

Using song lyrics to represent things our mouths could not say?

Isn’t it funny how we always felt

More sure

Speaking in metaphor

Knowing the meaning of the real words our ears would not hear?

Isn’t is funny how we always felt

More free

Speaking in metaphor

Even if it meant censoring our minds and mouths and ears and hearts?

Isn’t it funny how even now

As I am speaking in metaphor

You read between the lines

And know what I really wanted to say?

  2. This was excellent! Words or metaphors apply to more than one.
